Loyal Studios Co-Producing Pilot for “Loiters Squad” with Odd Future

Odd Future "OFWGKTA"

If you know what “OFWGKTA” stands for, you either know an avid texter, or you live for the thrill of soul-pumping beats.  The lengthy acronym belongs to the eclectic, alternative Hip Hop group called, “Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All” from Los Angeles.  Their sound joins the ranks of groups defining the music of a generation.

Odd Future OFWGKTA

Tyler: The Creator

Lead by Tyler: The Creator, the group took off in 2007, but it’s not just one band.  Odd Future is compiled of different subgroups like “The Jet Age of Tomorrow,” and “MellowHype.”  Odd Future shows off the talents of ten eclectic artists from Los Angeles, including Syd the Kyd, Hodgy Beats, Domo Genesis, Left Brain, Jasper Loc, Mike G, and Matt Martian.  The group’s success grew exponentially over the last five years with their internet fan base spilling over into crowded venues like London’s “The Drop,” Southern California’s “The House of Blues,” and the annual master-bands weekend, Coachella.

OFWGKTA lands this year in the cities of London, Birmingham, Glasgow, and Manchester for their 2012 tour.  Tickets pre-sold-out last year.

Snoop Dogg's classic 1965 Pontiac "Lakermobile"

Southern California and the “Thirty Mile Zone” is a hotbed for the automotive culture, including those of the stars of the silver screen and those working in the Entertainment industry. Producer Bob Bekian combined the two to create a unique look at the Celebrities individual expression through their cars.  One of the most interesting cars is Snoop Dogg’s 1965 Pontiac Catalina with photo-realistic airbrushed paintings of all the Los Angeles Lakers with an honorary Snoop slamming a ball into the hoop (in full Laker uniform).  ”That car reflects my love of the Lakers and this city,” Snoop says.”  I had the interior custom made with yellow and purple leather to represent my team’s colors.”

Another interesting featured car is Kim Kardashian’s blacked out Bentley with custom made black rhinestone rims. This car gives new meaning to the term “bling.”  Kim’s good friend, La La Vasquez, rolls in a metallic pink Range Rover with custom wheels to match.  ”Then there are the understated rides– like Will I Am‘s Tesla and Don Cheadle‘s Audi coupe.”  Bekian adds.

As a collector of vintage and performance cars himself, producer Bob Bekian has loved cars since his boyhood days in West L.A.  ”We coveted our Hot Wheels and dreamed of a day when we would own and drive cool real cars ourselves, so this project is based on a long time passion and love for the auto culture in Southern California.”  An avid collector of boomer and Hollywood memorabilia, Bekian has acquired an important vintage Hot Wheels collection, which is used frequently in movies and television.

Loyal Studios Provides Cameras and Technical Support to “Ghost Protocol”

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

Tom Cruise in "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol"

Burbank California (December, 2011):  Although the blockbuster hit Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol was shot primarily with the IMAX camera system, there were several complicated sequences that relied on the HD cameras and technical systems from the innovative people at Loyal Studios and Pro HD Rentals.

Tom Cruise Mission Impossible

Tom Cruise Behind the Scenes with Brad Bird

Director Brad Bird comes from an animation background, and is noted for meticulously story-boarding every shot in the Movie–sometimes going through several revisions before achieving his vision of how the final sequence is to be shot. “Our teams worked with SkyDance Productions and Bad Robot to develop POV (point of view) cameras which were used extensively throughout the picture,” said Bob Bekian of Loyal Studios. “We were very excited and honored to work with Tom Cruise, Brad, and their teams on this project to help to bring the story to life.”  Many of these camera systems were used to pre-visualize the scenes and make adjustments to the action and lighting before the actual take was recorded on the IMAX system.  This strategy helped to develop the complicated, expensive action sequences into what the viewer sees on the screen.

The movie was shot in Budapest, Moscow, Dubai and Vancouver which was made to look like Bangalore.

Tom Cruise on the Burj Khalifa Tower

Tom Cruise on the Berj Khalifa Tower in "Mission Impossible : Ghost Protocol"

One of the most exciting sequences involves Tom Cruise scaling the tallest building in the world known as the Berj Khalifa in Dubai. “We provided specialized cameras and lenses that were used to capture some of this amazing footage, and Tom was very respected by the crew in his willingness and ability to do many of the complicated stunts himself,” Bekian added.

Paula Patton of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

Another challenge was to capture the action sequence involving the BMW supercar known as the Vision.”  Obtaining this epic shot caused Bird and his crew to think creatively in order to overcome a number of issues.  Many types of cameras were used throughout the car sequences, including the workhorse Canon 5D DSLR Camera system.

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian at Loyal Studios

Kim Kardashian stopped by the Loyal Studios Burbank green screen studio — not for an interview, but for a visit with her good friend, La La Vasquez.  La La was in the process of filming segments for her show “La La’s Full Court Life” now airing on VH1 . The Reality T.V star pulled into the parking lot in her customized black Bentley, and proceeded into the closed set as a V.I.P. guest. Kim and La La had their make-up done together, shot still photos, relaxed, and spent some time away from the media circus that surrounds Kim these days.

The two have been good friends for a long time and have remained loyal to each other despite their respective high profile lives.

Bob Bekian and Loyal Studios Enter The Grid with Olivia Wilde for “Tron: Legacy”

Tron: Legacy

Tron: Legacy

1982. A year that brings to mind the electronic sounds of Depeche Mode, the brilliantly colored, angular neon couture of emerging fashion, the first CDs, the birth of PCs, and the cinematic eye-popping 70’s inspired graphics of Disney’s cult classic, “Tron.”  Starring Jeff Bridges as Kevin Flynn, the original “Tron” was the story of a young computer genius who circumnavigated the logic of fledgling computer technology to create the ultimate unique GUI (Graphical User Interface) by way of a “Honey I Shrunk the Kids” style De-rez, digitizing beam.  Kevin finds himself kidnapped by the MCP (Master Control Program) inside the computer, and fights to survive as a “User” while teaming up with his friend, Alan’s, security “Program,” Tron, to escape MCP’s hold back to reality.

Although “Tron” was never a blockbuster, it still wedged itself in as part of the nascent digital revolution.  Now, 28 years later in real time, Disney has taken that idea and recreated the neon striated world using state-of-the-art computer graphics with high definition keying techniques to transform the blocky settings into a pure 3D immersive experience.  “Tron Legacy” –Directed by Joseph Kosinski is a stunning high quality counterpart to its forefather.  Starring Jeff Bridges–returning as Kevin Flynn, and also as his creation, CLU, “Tron: Legacy” introduces the athletic skills of Garrett Hedlund as Kevin’s adult son, “Sam Flynn,” and the graceful Olivia Wilde as the unique “ISO” (Isomorphic Algorithm,) “Quorra.”

Oliva Wilde as "Quorra" for "Tron: Legacy"

As it happens, Kevin has been living in the world of Tron for the past 25 years, leaving his only son the head shareholder of Kevin and Alan’s game company, Encom.  Sam finds himself blasted into The Grid –a digital world his father created–, and with the help of Quorra, battles life and death situations against a facist 1982 version of Bridges in order to free his father and return home.

The Trailer for “Tron: Legacy” sent millions of fans drooling over the two-decade awaited sequel.  Loyal Studios in Santa Monica, California, was the location used to shoot a portion of the trailer with Olivia Wilde.  Using the studio’s spacious green screen, The Grid came alive with motion capture nodes, identity disks, ideal lighting, and, of course, the incredible flexible talent of Wilde, who gave Quorra a deep emotional resonance.

“We were very excited to work with Disney on this project and are always impressed with their technical capabilities” says Bob Bekian, Producer and owner of Loyal Studios.  “Disney is always pushing the technical envelope with new innovations and technical advancements as they did with this project.  We shot the project with a modified RED camera 3D system with Prime lenses.  Our goal is always to work closely with the client at our Loyal studios facilities, and provide a technical solution to their production– as we did in this case, integrating the latest 3D systems with our pre-lit Greenscreen studios  to insure the clients requirements are met.”

behind the scenes content from Movies, Television, Commercials, and Music Videos,” Bekian says.  “We are excited to bring our visitors a fresh view into the entertainment world and provide advertisers with a high traffic venue.”

A unique feature about the site is the design that does not “pre-roll” advertising on the video screen, nor does it obstruct the content with a lower third ad.  Rather, the site feels as if you are watching a TV screen with clean advertising neatly organized in the player and control panel.  “We felt that the pre-roll and lower third traditional web-ad strategies can be obstructive and a turn-off to viewers, so we have designed the site to be more viewer friendly.”  Keeping the website clean and functional are very important to the feel of the site.
